This year, we are proud to offer the Jack and Jill competition in partnership with the Brazilian Zouk Dance Council.
Jack & Jill competitions are designed to highlight skills in social Brazilian Zouk dancing and the ability to dance well with a variety of partners. Competitors enter as individuals are randomly assigned partners and dance to music selected by Zouk Encounter. Male competitors must enter as “leaders” and female competitors must enter as “followers”.
Zouk Encounter is a Brazilian Zouk Dance Council (“BZDC”) Registry Event. As such, points are awarded to the winners and place getters (and possibly finalists) of our Jack & Jill Competitions. The Zouk Encounter Dance Festival will record and track every competitor and these points will be used to identify the category a person should compete in. There must be a minimum of five couples per category for points to be recorded. Points will be recorded and tracked as follows:
|Tier/# of Couples||1st Place||2nd Place||3rd Place||4th Place||5th Place||Additional|
|Tier1 = 5-15||5||4||3||2||1||0|
|Tier2 = 16-39||10||8||6||4||2||(6th to 10th) 1 point|
|Tier3 = 40+||15||12||10||8||6||1 point all finalists|
The guidelines for each category are set out on this page. If you want to enter a category for which you do not meet the entry requirements stated or want to change categories, you may submit a request by sending us an email with a brief explanation of the reason(s) for your request.
A person should compete in Novice if they have never competed in Brazilian Zouk Jack & Jill competitions before or have not yet obtained an Intermediate level.
A person should request to compete in Intermediate if they have obtained an Intermediate level or are invited by the event organizers due to their extensive dance experience in Brazilian Zouk.
